I want to try out Internet Relay Chat, but I'm hoping there's a more humane way to interact live. I'd prefer voice, but live chat via text is the next best I guess. Is IRC the only/best way to do it? If you haven't tried it, I suggest you use the free open source Firefox web browser, with its free open source Chatzilla plugin. That way Chatzilla opens a new window leaving your browser window as-is. Chatzilla has many helpful features, including automatically scrolling the window down so you see new text.
