Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is an instant messaging system that works well with groups, and requires no registration.

Most of the time, and certainly during NVC Wiki Day, someone into NVC is on IRC here:

Server: irc.freenode.net, Channel: #nvc

• Windows - mIRC, Trillian
• Linux - kvirc, ksirc
• Cross-platform:
