Does anyone know if we can be more than 5 in conference call with [http://gizmoproject.com/ gizmo] ? --[[User:Dieudo|Dieudonné]] 21:13, 21 January 2006 (CET)

Revision as of 21:13, 21 January 2006

Yesterday Linnaea Marvell (project manager of nvcworld) and i had a conversation about the wikis. We like to start a discussion with all nvc peoples involved in wiki technology for future plans of the wikis here.

Is there a reason why there are five wikis ?

In my point of view there is no need for five wikis, i would like to have the content in one wiki only so there is no need for interwiki links to other wikis which also have nvc information.

The nvcwiki.com was reserved without knowing about other wiki projects running, so today i know about others and like to find the best practice for all.

What i like to have ?

  • One platform with all informations about nvc freely available.
  • It should be possible to have language links configured for all countries. So it would be easy to get nvc informations in the language of the visitor.
  • Its more easy to have one wiki running than maintenance for three wikis.

to be continued.

I am interested in your opinions and whats alife in you ?

personal preferences of markus noted. and empathycollective added. i disagree i reconize your need for efficeny and order but i think the diversity and choice are in line with diversiry of tactics (space enought for all) and each will progress at the rate cooperative or competitivly or indypendent of the others. though i do feel apritiative to anybody who would take time to update simmilar pages on all 3.

callz

I get very tired when i imagine updating information on several pages every tinme i have something to say about NVC - i want more ease. Realistically, i probably will not do it, and imagine others also will also stay with one wiki.

I feel sad then, because i so much want there to be enough people working on one wiki so that it really "takes off" - has great content, and many people in the NVC network know about it and use it. Once there is a thriving wiki community, i'd be happy for people to split off new wikis - because they want to focus on a particular aspect of NVC or their group or organization, use a different license, etc.

Different languages make sense to me as a reason to have separate wikis at the start now - it seems that nvc-europe is primarily a French wiki. And the empathy collective is about many other things in addition to NVC, so i want it to remain separate.

That leaves us with three English-language, general NVC wikis: NVC World, NVC Wiki, and Speak Freely. I have some preference that 'the' NVC wiki not be associated with a particular project or organization (so that it is most welcoming to everyone), but my interest in having us start with only one wiki is so strong that i might be willing to let that go.

suggestion by John Abbe, by email, to...

meet on IRC (Internet Relay Chat), January 19 or 20 at 8:00am U.S. West Coast would be afternoon in UK & Germany, and 9:30pm in India, which would allow all of us to participate. Any objections or other ideas? Preferences for 19 or 20?

We can probably find a way to do voice as well...

ok for 19 and 20 for me.

Meeting proposal on Skype :

  • 20th of january, at 16:00 UTC,
    • that is 8:00 am PST (with PST = UTC-8 ),
    • 9:30pm, 21:30 in India (with India time = UTC+5:30)

For me both the 19 and 20 january are not ok, i am finishing my mediation training this week and weekend (19-23 january) and i think i will not have access to any computer. I think it would be not as easy to find a date for all people so i am confident that you will find a solution without me which will also be ok for me. If you have any other date proposals i would enjoy it. Next date not ok for me would be the 27-29 january.

--Markus Pallo 19:14, 6 January 2006 (CET)

I am not able to attend on the 20th at all I have a training that day. I am also not ok with the 21st. Anytime after the 22nd would work for me though.

--Linnaea Marvell

January 24 and 25 are both ok for me. Skype is also fine for me.

--Markus Pallo 8:40, 8 January 2006 (CET)

24, 25 and 26 are ok for me.

--Dieudonné 18:35, 8 January 2006 (CET)

24, 25 and 26 are ok for me. Skype is also ok as long as it is just chat and no voice connection.

--Markus Wittwer 10:31, 9 January 2006 (CET)

So, I suggest that we all meet using Skype, January 24 at 8am U.S. West Coast - 4pm London, 5pm Germany (& France ?), and 9:30pm in India, which would allow all of us to join the conversation. Up to five of us can talk by voice - perhaps one person can take good notes in real time on instant messaging, that way Markus Wittwer can participate.

As a reminder, the subject is all these different NVC wikis.
